Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I should begin therapy?

Most people come to psychotherapy wanting to change some aspect of their lives, and feeling unable to create the change despite previous efforts. Change, no matter how needed or desired, is often a difficult and complex process. Without the ability to change, a person’s sense of freedom can become inhibited – and life can generate high levels of anxiety, frustration, and regret. In a collaborative and creative exchange we will notice, put in perspective, and zoom in and out on what brings you in.

How does psychotherapy work?

Psychotherapy is a relational process between people, each of whom brings unique knowledge to the conversation.  Together we will identify your goals. Our time together will be an interactive process focused on insight,  self- awareness, problem solving, guidance.  We will work to find the best path for you. I will make recommendations based on my experience and training.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of time we spend together can always be talked about.  You may begin to feel relief from certain symptoms faster than you expected.  It is the exploration of interconnecting aspects of your life that may increase the time we spend together.  It is the relationship between the psychotherapist and the client, which contributes most to a positive outcome.  It is of the utmost importance that you feel safe, supported, and understood.
